This is a colorful six page packet for teaching students with special needs about Earth Day. It focuses on vocabulary, reading comprehension, environmental science, and fine motor skills.
Page 1: 4 vocabulary words about Earth Day with definitions and pictures. This can be displayed for the whole class on a document camera or given to each student.
Page 2: Using the vocabulary words, students will cut and paste to make flashcards or just match them on a separate piece of paper. All of the words, definitions, and pictures featured on page one are in the cut and paste activity for page two.
Page 3: A rebus story with Boardmaker picture clues that explains Earth Day.
Page 4: Five comprehension questions about what is directly stated in the text. Students are to answer the questions based on the story on page 3.
Page 5: Answers for page 4. Boardmaker symbols are included with each answer choice. Questions 1-4 have a field of four answers to choose from. Question 5 has four parts, so there is a field of eight answers to choose from. Students cut out the correct answer and paste it into the boxes on page 4 to complete each sentence.
Page 6: Students are given 9 human activities. They are to circle the ones that are good for the environment and put an x on the ones that harm the environment. Objective: Given examples of human activities, student will identify the activities that may have a positive and/or negative impact on the natural environment.
This worksheet can be used in science classes, life skills classes, or in general special education.
Boardmaker pictures are used to simplify the definitions for students with special needs.
Worksheet would be excellent for general education Pre-K through possibly grade 1, also for all grades with special education students.
