What educators are saying

My students loved this edible compost activity. We learned how things are broken down naturally in an ecosystem and enjoyed a classroom treat.

Earth Day is just around the corner! What better way to learn about taking care of the Earth than doing Earth Day Science Activities! And, of course, we do it the yummy way by doing this Earth Day Science Activity, which is made easy by this engaging and comprehensive Edible Compost and Composting Project PowerPoint! Students will enjoy the Edible Science Activity even more! There are many ways you can modify this activity to coincide with your lesson. You can use it different ingredients than the ones chosen (e.g. raisins instead of chocolate chips) or add more (e.g. gummy worms to imitate earthworms). You can also be more specific as to what materials you used for each level (e.g. coconut flakes are grass clippings) and label the cup accordingly. Your class will surely enjoy making this edible compost!

This 22-slide PowerPoint presentation contains the following:

  • A cover
  • A title page
  • 7 slides for Words to Know
  • 7 slides for Key Ideas on Composting
  • 3 slides for the Edible Science Activity
  • 2 slides for Note to the Teacher

Note: The transitions can be edited in this Earth Day PowerPoint resource. You can also edit the slides for the Edible Science Activity in the event that you want to change the ingredients for your edible compost.
