This PowerPoint slide show teaches the student the step by step process of interpreting the information in the Properties of Water chart in the New York State Earth Science Reference Tables. The slide shows connects the information on the latent heat values to the Heating Curve of Water. Also referenced in this slide show is the Specific Heat of Common Substances also found in the Reference Tables. The specific heat values for water in its three phases are then used in connection to the Heating Curve of Water. This leads into the instruction of how to solve heat word problems. The slide show concludes with the density of water and how to predict the behavior of objects when placed in water. I also included slides that review the behavior of objects when placed in a column of liquids with varying densities.
