Are you looking for a way to make your students more focused on what they should be learning, and more motivated to fill in gaps in their knowledge? This resource contains specific objectives, written in first person, student-friendly language as well as suggested vocabulary for that unit. Each objective is based on standards and performance indicators. These are included for all units in Earth Science.
Students can rate how they are doing on each one on a descriptive scale. They can then use these to guide their studying, ask questions, etc.
I sometimes use them at the start of a unit, midway through, or at the end as a starting point to focus their review. On my course evaluations, many of my past students said this was one of the things that helped them the most!
