In this NGSS-style lab activity, students are presented with 2 sections of graphs. In section one, students are shown a graph of CO2 and temperature as measured over the past 420,000 and must make a claim - providing reasons and evidence for that claim - about what correlation the graph is showing between CO2 and temperature. In section two, students are shown 3 graphs: world energy use, CO2 and temperature for the past 200 years. Students then must make a claim about how the 3 graphs are related - once again providing reasons and evidence for that claim. This activity is designed to be done at the start of a climate change unit. Before the students gain any extra knowledge about any correlations between CO2 and temperature. This product is in .docx format and the graphs all have citations in case you would like to access the data (from NOAA and NASA) and update the graphs. An answer key is not include as student responses will vary widely.
