In this activity, students will learn about how air pressure can affect weather and climate. Students will complete a flow chart that will help them predict what kind of climate and ecosystem can be found in a certain region based on certain defining characteristics of that region (mountains, direct sunlight, cooler ocean currents, etc). Students will then color a map of prevailing winds across the Earth and answer questions about why certain climate types exist in certain regions. Original activity was created for use in Michigan, however it can be edited for your location. File is in .doc format. A key (in .pdf format) is included. Activity is designed to be copied onto 11x17 paper.
In the past, my classes have completed the flow chart section together as a class.
