This lesson aligns with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS):
"STANDARD 8 - The Universe and Practices of Science.
The teacher understands and applies accepted practices and implications of science in contemporary and historical contexts.
8A. understands the properties and dynamic nature of the solar system.
8D. observes, describes, and explains the relative and apparent motions of objects in the sky.
8G. demonstrates the ability to use instruments or to explain functions of the technologies and tools used in the study of the space sciences."

First PowerPoint lesson in the unit on "Planet Earth and the Moon." The lesson explains Earth properties and orbital movement (seasons, solstices and equinoxes).
A separate student note guide is available for this lesson as well.

PowerPoint lessons contain many graphics and two links to short videos to further student understanding.
PowerPoint slides also contain notes for the instructor based on students most "frequently asked questions" or FAQ's to help clarify the subject.
A class activity is included at the end of each lesson and a 20-question interactive quiz/review at kahoot.it is also included as a link in the last slide.
