What a fun book series that gets kids reading! I created a comprehension packet to use with Earthquake in the Early Morning. This is book 24 in the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. This packet has been divided into five reading assignments. Each assignment contains comprehension questions and vocabulary found within the assigned reading. There are also questions based on inferencing and visualization. Students need to support their inferences using text clues. They also support their visualization drawings by identifying clue words from the text that helped them create the image in their head. The AR Level for this book is 3.3 worth 1 point.
The packet can last three to five weeks depending on the amount of time you have for Reading. My kids love reading groups, and always ask when we are going to do another one. This is a great way to differentiate between reading levels and reading interest of your students!
I have also used this packet during RtI. I had worked with students on inferences and visualization. This was a great way to spiral the two skills together while applying the skill to a text at their reading levels.
Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the download, and please feel free to leave feedback on the product!
