This resource contains an information reading on types of seismic waves including body waves ( p waves and s waves) and surface waves (love waves and Rayleigh waves). These are all introduced in the simplest terms. A graphic organizer in included to draw pictures and record information on types of waves. Students WILL need guidance in discerning differences and what to record. A lesson plan is included. Introduce one wave type at a time, demonstrating p and s waves with a slinky and students. This lesson is designed to take one class period. The graphic organizer provided would easily fit and work well in an interactive notebook.
This activity will soon be included in an Earthquake Bundle.
I also have the following earthquake resources, all designed to teach middle school earth science:
Introduction to Earthquakes
Earthquakes: Faults: Normal, Reverse, and Strike-slip
