Are you introducing Earth's layers to your students? Do you need them to become familiar with the terms lithosphere, asthenosphere, mantle, mesosphere, outer core, and inner core?
This is a fun little activity that takes about one middle school class period. In it, kids use copies of the page you reproduce (on cardstock, if you can). They label, define, and color Earth's layers on a fun little model. Then they cut it out, fold it up and turn it into pieces of a "planetary pie." Sixteen student-made pieces together make one pie.
Kids love arranging and rearranging these pieces into pies, and they learn the names and locations of the layers found inside our planet while doing so. Good times!
