This Earth’s Place in the Universe Mega Bundle Pack will make teaching Next Generation Science Standards engaging and effortless! This pack includes an Earth’s Place Interactive Notebook, Earth’s Place Science Stations, Earth’s Place Writing Prompts, and Earth’s Place Task Cards.
Interactive Notebook: After incorporating interactive notebooks in every other subject I teach, I decided I couldn’t exclude science! This package includes 19 interactive notebook activities for a Matter Study. These activities are aligned to 5th grade Next Generation Science Standards and are sure to engage and excite your scientists. Most activities only include one page to copy (some require copying two pages), assembly directions and writing instructions are also included for students on each page. These activities require NO TEACHER PREP! As far as samples go, you can copy and laminate the sample pages I’ve included, if you plan to place activities in stations. If activities will be completed in whole group, then you can display the sample images on your Smart Board. Aside from making student copies, allow students access to books and Internet documents to record relevant, factual information in each activity.
Interactive science notebooks serve as amazing reference tools and can be used as authentic assessments for students. They can do as much as they want to do! Encouraging artistic flair only adds to the enthusiasm!
Writing Prompts: This package includes 22 writing prompts aligned to a Earth’s Place in the Universe unit. Each writing prompt is in the form of a question relating to Earth’s position in the sky and its systems with the Sun, the Moon, and stars. These prompts can be used in writing groups, as part of a whole group research project, and/or independently as an assessment. The prompt topics allow for easy integration of ELA and science. Prompts could be used to guide instruction and/or be used as an exit slip as a science “cool down.” I have also included Common Core aligned 5th grade writing explanatory and opinion scoring rubrics. These prompts are designed and aligned to meet the 5th Grade Next Generation Science Standards within your Earth’s Place in the Universe unit of study.
Science Stations: The activities in this package can be implemented in whole group during your Earth’s Place in the Universe science unit, in small group science stations, or during your literacy block in literacy stations. These project-based science stations will have your students researching the Sun, Earth, stars, and Earth’s Moon, reading about Earth’s place in the universe to complete graphic organizers for science notebooks, exploring Earth in lab situations, practicing 24 key vocabulary terms, playing vocabulary games (Fiddle Strips!), and using research for to mini-books, fact files, and posters. I have set up the activities into 5 science stations, but they can also be implemented in whole groups or small groups without stations.
A bonus narrative writing prompt and writing pages are also included. You will also find a bonus Seasons Mini-Book and a bonus Phases of the Moon Mini-Book for research writing fun!
These activities are interactive and will keep students engaged throughout your Earth’s Place in the Universe unit.
Task Cards: This set of 24 Earth’s Place Task Cards focuses on the characteristics and systems of Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and the stars in the solar system. An additional set of moon phase cards are included for students to label and explain. This set can be used in science stations, whole group Scoot, whole group partner practice, and/or as test prep. I recommend printing, laminating and cutting the task cards. I recommend printing, laminating and cutting the moon phase cards also. Place sets at a station or review center with recording forms for students. The moon phase cards could also be implemented as a performance assessment.
