Introduce your Algebra 1 students to exponential functions and geometric sequences with Halloween candy! This bundle includes an interactive PowerPoint that gets them thinking about eating a certain fraction of their candy each day and a Student Activity that lets them explore the concept with different fractions (common ratios). Instructions are provided so students can use either paper-and-pencil, TI-Nspire graphing calculators, TI-84 series graphing calculators or the Desmos online site or app. Students calculate values, make a table and a scatter plot, then try to determine a function that matches their data. Of course, you can substitute other candy, or items other than candy. All documents are provided in original format (MS Word, PowerPoint and TI-Nspire .tns) so you can edit them, and in .pdf format if you do not have compatible software.
This bundle contains this two-day introductory activity. More Exponential Functions Unit lessons will be published later.
