Easter Craft + Math and Literacy Center: Jelly Beans Math
Spring or Easter Basket Project & Poems with Jelly Bean Math

★★ I have made two versions of the poems, one with the word Spring substituted for Easter in case your school does not celebrate holidays.

★ Two patterns for baskets, one that prints out in color and one in black and white. You may also print out the color one in black and white, and students can color that one as well.

★ Just cut out, fold in the tabs, and glue or use clear tape. The long rectangular shape is the handle.

★ Poems are included for students to read during shared reading or after they assemble their baskets.

★ For an added touch, put cellophane grass and put jelly beans in each basket.

★ If your school celebrates Easter, you could even have the jelly beans appear just before school...

Directions for an Easter or Spring Math Center Activities with the jelly beans:

Give each student a baggie or paper cup with regular colored jelly beans. If you have a large class, you can ask students to work with a partner.

Students sort and count their jelly beans by colors. They can glue the pieces to the chart below, or place them, and then draw them, so that they can eat them!

Another page asks students to solve some simple addition problems if they are ready for this kind of work. Otherwise it can be a simple sorting and counting activity.

I have provided a simple sorting map in case you'd like to make the activity a bit easier and not glue or draw the jelly beans onto the chart.
