Who know that the ostrich egg weighs 3 pounds and contains 2000 calories! Oh my. A chart is provided for the students to compile the facts for easy comparisons.
POETRY is another component in this lesson packet. Easy, short rhymes are shared for your students to try and memorize and illustrate with their own creativity. Cartoon layout page is helpful to get your students started in sharing their visions of how powerful words are and how pictures start to form in their heads. Some famous poets are included to give a well rounded introduction to poetry. Limericks are a fun and witty way to engage your students and to make poetry fun.
Activity sheets included are a word search, Egg crossword puzzle, a description and supply list to have your own Egg Drop Contest! (My students LOVED this spring activity combined with a lunch picnic outside).
Recipes are shared to help you bake in your classroom too. From Turkey Delights and Jelly beans, Spring is all about the candy, isn't it?
I always try to include READING into my lessons and many students enjoy a book display. For this purpose, I have provided a brief description of books I found helpful in sharing all about Chickens, Easter and Eggs! Since I know that obtaining AR points can sometimes be a challenge once the weather turns nice, I also offered some AR Books and their reading levels that will fit into this theme nicely, from 1.7 level to 6.3
And finally as a bonus and Thank You, I have included a SPRING fun section with the ABC letters to spell SPRING in a mini road trip for their matchbox or hotwheel cars. A fun way to engage spellers to discover new words form one word, SPRING. Can you find: IN, PIN, GRIN, PIG, etc.
