These activities are designed to address Common Core Standard K.NBT.1. Students will compose and decompose numbers 11 to 19. Place Value is introduced as students learn that 10+1=11; 10+2=12, etc. This activity pack includes double ten frame work mats, place value work mats, and Three in a Row bingo boards. Also included are jelly bean counters and playing cards representing numbers 11 to 20 in standard notation (10+1; 10+2) tens and ones, and double digit numerals. This activity can be used with my Easter Eggstravaganza Flip Chart or on its own. Backgrounds and clipart for this activity were provided by MyCuteGraphics.com (Check out their freebies!!!
Directions for games are as follows:
Three in a Row: This game is played like bingo. Teacher (or partner) presents children with a flash card and students mark their answer with a jelly bean counter. The first person to get three in a row is the winner.
War: Take out wild cards and deal playing cards evenly between 2 students. Students place their cards face down on table. Each player turns card over. The player with the highest number wins both cards. If students get the same number they turn another card over and the player with the highest number wins the whole pile. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.
Go Fish: Each student gets 5 cards. Students place pairs on the table and then try to make additional pairs by asking Do you have a (14)? If the partner does not have the cart that was asked for the student must "go Fish"(take a card from the pile. The student with the most pairs is the winner.
Concentration: Choose 2 sets of cards (wild cards are optional) and place all cards face down on table. Students take turns turning 2 cards over. If the cards match they get to keep the pair and take another turn. The player with the most pairs wins!
Build It: Students use either place value mats or double ten frame to construct numbers 11 to 20. Can use both at same time with different students to show differentiation. Teacher presents students with a card (11-20)Students will use base ten blocks (for place value mats) or jelly bean counters (double ten frame) to construct the number. Optional: students can use real jellybeans for added motivation.
