Celebrate the Easter season and help students solve one-step equations with nonnegative rational numbers at the same time!
This coloring activity includes two Easter-themed worksheets with corresponding coloring pages and answer keys. Each worksheet consists of eleven algebra problems in which students have to perform one inverse operation to solve for one variable. While both worksheets involve all four operations, one page features equations with fractions and the other page features equations with decimals. When students solve an equation, they find the correct answer on the corresponding coloring page and color that part of the illustration based on colors listed in a key. This way, students can check their work by making sure that each answer appears somewhere on the coloring page, and teachers can quickly check for understanding by glancing at the coloring page as well! Of course, we recommend reviewing the worksheets in addition to the coloring pages to ensure that students have correctly performed inverse operations when solving for the variables. Both coloring pages require students to use the key to color the letters of "HAPPY EASTER" in a way that correctly represents the answers from their worksheets, but they also have the freedom to color the remaining parts of the pictures as they please!
