I created these three problems to give students some engaging systems of equations word problems before Easter Break. There are three different problems that were tiered by difficulty level.
Group 1: Chocolate eggs, basic problem
Group 2: Easter baskets, medium difficulty, cost comparison
Group 3: Jelly beans, difficult, mixture problem
Students will solve the problems in groups and then create a presentation poster of their work. Depending on the number of groups, I sometimes have one of each group present their work to the class. This gives a students another example of each type of systems of equations problem.
The project sheet has space included for notes that students were assigned to take on each others' projects. This encourages my ninth graders to watch each other with a critical eye.
