Did you know that the mandolin is an inexpensive and easy to play addition to your guitar class? Most of the same basic chords used for guitar can be easily played on mandolin with only two (or occasionally three) fingers. Mandolins are available at major music retailers for as little $50 (check musicians friend or Woodwind and Brasswind). The Rogue brand are the ones I recommend. Interjecting a little variety in your guitar class can be great for leveled learning (advanced students can pick up a second instrument, or students with physical challenges may find mandolin a good alternative). The tuning is the same as violin (GDAE low to high). Mandolin might be a good fit for violin players as they can read music for violin and play it on mandolin.
