With some of my Pre-K students on the verge of reading, I needed to create a simple activity to encourage them to take a step towards learning how to read. This file is a set of easily recognizable compound words, like fishbowl and butterfly. Each word is a set of three cards. For example, armchair consists of arm, chair, and armchair. Each picture is labeled.
I used this activity in two ways. For an easier group, we discussed the words and tried to figure out how they fit together. For a more difficult group, we discussed the words and drew a picture of the word. We also copied the words.
The kids love this activity--they beg to do it over and over!
