This resource is my version of the good old AP Language stand-by SOAPStone. However, it is such a good strategy for analyzing non-fiction, that I actually created and used this resource when I taught LA10 (tenth grade).
I made this chart because I noticed that even my AP students sometimes missed easy textual features (like the title!) and often either over simplified the SOAPStone elements or misunderstood them. For example, they would write the setting information where it asked for "occasion" information or the name of the author where it asked for the "speaker" information. So, I make this organizer including an explanation of each element.
I use this all the time in pretty much every class I teach now--and I stopped teaching AP a few years ago. I hope you can use it too!
