Description
Easy Supplies means easy to gather and easy prep to get these challenges going. The best part is that these are highly engaging and challenging STEM activities! Your students will love these!
NOTE: This bundle contains six challenges featuring Easy Supplies. These are available separately and as part of other bundles. Click on the titles to see each challenge. Below are the smaller bundles!
The individual products include:
STEM Challenge Designing with Dozens: Foil Towers Students use foil and tape to make the tallest tower possible! The constant need for improving the tower to keep it standing goes hand-in-hand with using the supplies wisely and understanding balancing and counterbalancing. Will the tower stand up? Materials needed: Aluminum foil and masking tape.
STEM Challenge Designing with Dozens: Card Towers Students will be designing and constructing a tower made with only index cards and masking tape. Since the number of cards is limited to such a small amount kids must really determine the best way to use them! Materials needed: Index cards and tape.
STEM Challenge Designing with Dozens: Straw Towers Students will be designing and constructing a tower made with straws and tape. Again, the limited number of straws makes the kids really think about what to do. They will get very crafty in how they join straws and use the flexible part to counterbalance! Materials needed: Straws and tape.
STEM Challenge: Geodesic Domes Students will build a geodesic dome! Students will use only two materials for the dome - Straws and pipe cleaners (also called chenille stems). The challenge involves some research prior to beginning and some discussion of geometric shapes. Materials needed: straws, pipe cleaners (chenille stems), and scissors.
STEM Challenge: Bucket Towers Students build a tower (although not a very tall one) that will hold weight. There are some other rules for this and some ways you can vary the task. Students have the goal of suspending a “bucket” within the tower and that bucket must hold weight. The main supply for the tower is straws. Materials needed: straws, string, masking tape, hole punchers, small cups, and scissors.
STEM Challenge: Straw Hoop Flyers Students will create the ultimate hoop flyer. They will experiment with changing the variables of a standard hoop flyer and then choose which components to use in the ultimate design. The easy materials make this a fabulous STEM choice. Materials needed: straws, paper, tape, scissors, and rulers. Two sizes of straws are needed and many types of paper (cardstock, copy paper, construction paper).
Note: Each challenge is provided with a scoring rubric and an editable forms file.
NOTE: Each of these challenges may be purchased individually. You can also see a more detailed preview or read a longer product description by clicking on any of the links listed above.
