This lab is a fun way to start out any schoolyear, science class or not. This lab will probably take 2 classes, depending on how long the classes are. Your cereal does not need to be name brand, it will work either way. Save the cereal box so you can do a big reveal of the nutrition label at the end of the experiment. Hopefully, if they did everything right, their results will somewhat match the amount of iron on the nutrition label.
Because this is just for fun, and not actual scientific research, the kids will just be estimating how much iron they're finding. Some cereals will have a larger amount, and some may have almost none. I find it easier to pull the iron downward in the bag into the corner if possible.
Follow the procedure and make sure students are completing the pre-lab work, the lab work, and the post lab work.
