The activities in this package can be implemented in whole group during an Ecology Unit, in small group science stations, or during your literacy block in literacy stations. These project-based science stations will have your students exploring food chains, food webs, ecosystems and interactions to read and answer questions, conduct experiments, review vocabulary, play vocabulary games, conduct research projects, and explore ecosystems through technology.
These activities are interactive and will keep students engaged throughout your Ecology science unit! All activities and projects are designed and aligned to meet the 5th Grade Next Generation Science Standards.
This package includes:
Reading Station: Provide books and Internet documents with copies of graphic organizers. Organizers can also be used as note-takers in your whole group instruction.

-carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle
Vocabulary Station: 20 terms and definitions are included in chart form for students to practice and glue in their notebooks. All 20 terms (cells and plant function) are included in Ecology Fiddle Strips! game. Prepare the game according to instructions for vocabulary fun!
Explore Science: 4 ecology labs are included with materials lists and a lab form. Students could record lab results directly in their science notebooks. Prep the food web cards—laminate and cut for students to organize.
Computer Station: 7 websites are listed (and hyperlinked) for students to visit. Videos and video quizzes are included on some of the sites. 4 website recording sheets are included for note taking and accountability.
Research Station: Students will record their research in a Biome Fact File. These make great resources to keep in the classroom for future reference! Students analyze 8 photographs and record their observations, connections, and questions.
