Happy Earth Week!
This set of 5 reading comprehension passages with questions introduces your students to some of the relevant environmental issues of today. The passages are less than a page long and are followed by multiple choice questions. Difficult words are explained under each passage, encouraging fluent reading and comprehension.
I have tried to write the passages with the aim to making children think about and question our actions and inactions that impact the earth. Particularly important to us all are the lessons from the recent happenings in Flint, MI and so this is one of the passages. The Flint River passage is followed by 2 activities that I hope with encourage critical thinking.
The topics are:
1. The Bald Eagle – A success story
2. Greg visits his Grandparents (Reusing, Reducing and Recycling)
3. The Flint River Problem
4. Top Five Critically Endangered Animals
5. Fighting air pollution
I also have a set of 6 Earth Day Activities for Grades 1-2.
also has some ELA freebies you may be interested in.
