Purpose: The overarching goal of this lesson is to teach students about food web concepts. This fits into the ‘bigger picture’ because it will help all students to make connections between energy and living things and the relationships among producers, consumers, and decomposers.

• Explain the roles and relationships among producers, consumers, and decomposers
• Describe how organisms are dependent on one another for proper nutrition
• Explain how dead plants and animals are broken down by other living organisms and how this process contributes to the system as a whole.
