This is a social studies twist on a classic science project. We've all heard of the egg drop challenge. Build a contraption that will protect an egg when dropped from a high place. This is that same awesome challenge with a social studies tweak. In explaining the design and production of the contraption students must explain the four factors of production: natural resources, human resources, capital resources, and entrepreneurs. They must use this economic mindset in planning, designing, testing, and evaluating their design.
This lesson could easily be adapted to collaborate with your science teacher to incorporate that part of the learning, too.
This lesson is designed for a general education classroom with students of all abilities. It can be done as an individual assignment or as a group project.
