This simulation illustrates to students the differences between
market, mixed, and command economies by using the game
“Monopoly” as the setting. Three games are played that
simulate each of the economic models. After each game
students write a paragraph describing their experience. The end
product is a position paper where students choose and defend
their choice of economic system. A “paragraph template” is
included to guide those students with no position paper
experience or for special needs students.
This simulation requires that schools purchase 6-8 standard
Monopoly board games.
