Understanding economies of the world is a difficult task for many middle school kids. I have created an activity to help the students by making them apart of those economic systems so they can understand Traditional, Command, and Market systems. This activity goes great with 6th and 7th grade Social Studies standards in the state of Georgia. The activity roughly takes about an hour, but my students left it with a full understanding of how these economic systems work. It divides them into the different economic systems and has them building little paper cars to show how the 3 basic economic questions work. I also created a video for my students to go along with it using a web-based tool. I have included how I did that in here as well.
****Recently the website I used to make the videos on shut down. If you would like a copy of the videos, let me know and I can send them to you. However, there is a free (currently) app called Tellagami that can do the same thing. You will have to do multiple clips, and link them together.
