This is the second in a series of single period computer lab projects that I have designed for my 12th grade Economics students. This project allows students to search for apartments to rent. The project asks students to search for two apartments in three different cities. I have found that my 12th graders are very interested in this project and have a good time searching for their "perfect apartment". I don't put any limits on where to search or what type of apartments they should be searching for. Some students have even searched for other living arrangements - houseboats, small lofts, and dorms.
Nearly all of the research can be completed in a 50 minute class period. We usually start the project on a Friday - with it due the following Friday. The students will work through the "Follow Up" activity on the day the project is due.
There are usually some pretty lively discussions when the students figure out how much income they'll need to generate to afford the apartments they've selected.
I hope you enjoy the projects. Please let me know what you think.
