This product includes 3 complete social studies lesson plans targeted at the primary grades. Each lesson includes connections to the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies, specific learning objectives, detailed assessment suggestions, and ideas for modifications and accommodations for students with special needs.
The first lesson focuses on economics: What does it mean to prioritize? How do people make decisions? How do you choose what to spend your money on? Students engage in a role-playing activity where they are given $50 to spend on school supplies for the classroom, and they have to decide the best uses for their money.
The second lesson focuses on geography: Where am I? How do you describe a place? What makes a place special? The students make "place riddles," by using descriptive language to write about a place and giving their peers the opportunity to see if they can guess where it is that they are describing.
The third lesson focuses on history: What happened at our school in the past? Who has worked here for a long time? What has changed? Students have the opportunity to work together to compose interview questions and then ask school staff about the history of their school.
