In this activity, students will participate as buyers and sellers in a simulation to better understand supply and demand and pricing. In groups of 3-4, students will create a product to sell to their fellow 7th graders in the Mall. Each group will make decisions about manufacturing, supply, pricing, and marketing based on what they anticipate the demand to be for their product. Students will each receive $10 "Carson" Bucks which they can spend on what they want at the Mall.
This includes: Directions, Student Handouts, Letter to Parents, List of Product ideas, and Follow Up activity with kids with a Graph (yay for tying in Math!)
You can choose your own name for the mall and create the fake money students receive. I had our Graphics Design teacher create a template for our "Carson Bucks" and each kid got a sheet of 12 to cut out (instead of 10). The entire 7th grade did this so it took some coordination with the other Social Studies teacher and our grade level to do this at the end of the day. Kids love this activity though and remember the concepts they learned during this for the rest of the year.
