This is a lesson designed for economic students to read articles and write an essay in response to the articles. The articles were taken from the New York Times newspaper. Students will read about all the reasons why Americans are having a hard time saving in today's economy. They will then fill out a graphic organizer about the articles where they will list the obstacles the authors described in the articles, give a way in which this problem can be overcome, and practice their citations. Then, students will go on to write a response essay using information from the articles and graphic organizer. Great lesson for core curriculum standards.
