Product Description
This video study guide contains 33 multiple-choice, economics-themed questions that can be used in conjunction with the 2007 film Ratatouille (Rated G - 111 minutes)

Each semester I allow my AP Economics students to select a film to watch in class following our final exam, on the condition that they would answer questions about the economic themes in the film. The result was this study guide, which we used to discuss the economic concepts demonstrated in the movie. It was a pleasant surprise for them to vote for a movie that I really enjoy :)

Some of the concepts addressed in the study guide include Utility, Gross Domestic Product, Employment and the Labor Force, Supply and Demand, Scarcity, Externalities, Public and Private Goods, Opportunity Cost, and Economic Inputs. There are also questions that include game theory and payoff matrices. I would say that some of the questions are fairly difficult and might go beyond what students would be expected to know in a basic, one-semester economics course. My AP Economics students found some of the questions very challenging.

Because each question offers a description of the relevant scene(s) from the movie, students do not need to complete the study guide as they watch the film; they can answer each question after viewing the film, possibly with the aid of textbooks, notes and other sources. I usually assign a portion of the questions as homework after viewing some of the film, then we discuss those questions before continuing the film in class the following day. As extra credit you could also ask students to write similar, economics-themed questions for a show or movie of their choosing.

More than 80% of the questions address microeconomic concepts, as we haven't yet begun our study of macro- at this point in the school year. Chances are you might not have covered all of these concepts in class, so feel free to modify as you see fit. If you have any suggestions for or questions about the study guide, please let me know, as well. Answer key follows the 6-page student handout.

Thank you, and enjoy!
