In this activity, students will learn about the different forms of currency used during the middle ages such as shillings, pounds, pence, crowns and marks. They will do some math by figuring out conversions, such as 20 shillings is equivalent to 1 pound. Each group will then be given an occupation card. These cards list ACTUAL wages from the Middle Ages for common jobs such as soldier, knight, lord, carpenter, etc. Using this yearly wage, they will look through the "Middle Ages Shopping Catalog" and purchase rent, food, livestock, work related tools, etc. This is a great activity for students to learn about the economy of the Middle Ages in a fun, visually appealing, unique and engaging way.
