This 30 page document has two parts; a 15 page booklet for students and a 15 page answer key for teachers. It is specifically aligned with the new Essential Standards for the science curriculum. It's main use is for fifth grade classrooms, but can be adapted since the blocks allow for students and teachers to go in-depth as much or as little as they would like.
The purpose of this booklet is to allow students and teachers to take notes in a structured and organized way. Students could take notes from a textbook, research, or teacher directed notes using the provided answer key. It is a great resource for students to use as a study guide for test and quizzes as well as state tests at the end of the year.
Page two lists overarching questions that come from the fifth grade essential standards for ecosystems. The following pages cover the ecosystem hierarchy, ecosystem attributes of land (grassland, tropical rain forest, deciduous forest, coniferous forest) and aquatic (ocean, pond, estuary, salt marsh) ecosystems, roles of organisms (producer, consumer, decomposer), comparing consumers (herbivore, carnivore, omnivore), interactions of organisms (commensalism, mutualism, parasitism), food chains, food webs, energy pyramids, changes to ecosystems and key content vocabulary terms.
Please be on the look out for other student booklets that will cover the other fifth grade science Essential Standards.
