Teach ecosystems in an engaging way using fun and educational Depth and Complexity activities! This packet will have kids participating in collaborative conversations, imagining and writing about their very own original ecosystem, writing from a living organism’s perspective, sorting living and nonliving parts of ecosystems, illustrating the rest of an unfinished ecosystem scene, designing an ecosystem diorama, creating a presentation, and researching and writing informatively. Additionally, students will even have the chance to put together a brochure on a particular ecosystem and try to persuade people to visit!
Although these lessons use GATE (Gifted and Talented) icons and frames, all activities can be used with students at any level. I've used Depth and Complexity frames with students ranging from gifted to special education, and all students have shown success! Detailed instructions are included for each lesson. Never used the frames or prompts before? Not a problem at all! Detailed instructions are included at the end of the packet!
