Once students have studied about ecosystems/biomes this project provides a final presentation of learning. The project focuses on eight ecosystems/biomes of the world: Tropical Rain Forest, Tundra, Grasslands, Taiga, Desert, Deciduous Forest, Aquatic-Marine, and Aquatic-Fresh water. The premise of a new zoo being built in your town is utilized to begin the project.
A detailed PowerPoint presentation is provided to begin the project. Information about the zoo and ecosystems as well as the responsibilities of group members: Botanist, Zoologist 1, Zoologist 2, and Climatologist/Geographer is provided. Detailed slides explain the roles and responsibility for each member.
A webquest is provided to aid students in gathering information. The webquest provides links to the research guide, a website, a PowerPoint template, a self-evaluation rubric, and the teacher rubric.
Once research has been completed, students are to create a poster showing the food chain of the ecosystem. They will also create a 3D representation of the new ecosystem for the zoo.
A concluding oral presentation will be given to the class. Students may choose from a PowerPoint, newsletter/brochure, or a web page to present the information.
Word documents and PDFs are included in the files as well as PowerPoint files.
