This packet includes several activities that could be completed to
encourage students to do independent research and reporting about
The Nature Trail Field Trip is designed to be usable for any local
nature trail in your area. I, personally, used it for the Northlake
Nature Trail near Mandeville, Louisiana, which had both forested
and swamp areas.
Included in the Packet:
1. Researching an ecosystem and creating either a poster or a
“Glog” using online Glogster. If you have you students use
Glogster, you will need to register your students.
2. Nature Trail Field Trip observation form that includes biosphere,
geosphere, and hydrosphere.
3. Managing Louisiana’s Wetlands Scenario. This activity has
students completing research on the importance of Louisiana’s wetlands and why they are disappearing. Then students use their research to combine reporting and creative writing into a story or script. You do not need to live in Louisiana to understand and
report on the significance of the wetland loss!
4. Reporting on an Ecosystem project
5. Self-Scoring Form
6. Fact Sheets for Research
I hope you and your students will enjoy the activities and learn a lot!
