PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Your students will enjoy learning about the relationships in a pond ecosystem by participating in this self directed, week-long inquiry unit!

This 32 page product consists of a 10 station rotation with an introductory video where students will collect information and pictures about Pond Ecosystems using iPads or iPod Touches. They will use a variety of apps, websites, and additional videos to gather information.

They will access the material by scanning QR Codes which elementary students love to do! The four videos in this inquiry are all hosted by SafeShare.tv, so there is no fear of encountering any advertising--just the content they need to complete the unit!


At the end of the rotation, students can create a product or presentation that shows their learning. Examples of student products and a rubric are also included!

This unit has been designed using the “5 E’s of Instruction” model:

•Engage your students by activating their prior knowledge. They can complete a standard KWL chart or collect their knowledge electronically by using Padlet.
•Explore by having your students rotate through the stations.

•Explain information in the student answer booklets.

•Elaborate by creating a product that shows their knowledge and understanding of Pond Ecosystems. Students will be able show the relationship between Consumers, Producers, and Decomposers. This product could be a PowerPoint, Popplet, ThingLink, etc.

•Evaluate their products by discussing and presenting them.

Included are:
* Signs for 10 stations plus one introductory station

*11 Page Student Answer Booklet which has been formatted to be printed back to back and folded in half.

*10 Page Teacher Packet with directions, suggestions, a rubric, and product samples.

All you need are iPads or iPod Touches, and three free apps!
