This lesson examines how ecotourism can be used to protect rainforests. Students examine what is ethical ecotourism with a reading and discussion. After the discussion students are given an opportunity to create their own ecotourism resort in the rainforest to prove they understand how ecotourism can help protect rainforests and other natural areas. This is great for creativity and those who enjoy architectural drawing.
-Students assignment with questions and rubrics for resort design
Please be aware that ½ of the profit will be going to a non-profit teacher-run organization called Save The Rainforest, Inc. to help preserve and educate about rainforests. Specifically, this money will be earmarked for a project called Green Rainforest in Panama. A group of dedicated researchers and naturalists are establishing a jaguar reserve to protect the migration corridor of their largest predator. Your purchase will actually be protecting rainforests and jaguars along with the biodiversity found in that area! There is also an ecotourist plan in the works.
