This biography research resource about Edgar Allan Poe includes:
1) Four graphic organizers for students to complete. Students must have internet access to complete the organizers. A list of trusted (and hopefully, permanent) websites is included. Please do let me know if any of the websites are not available.
The four organizers that students will complete are:
Edgar Allan Poe’s Early Life;
Poe as a Teenager and Young Man;
Edgar Allan Poe, Published Writer;
Edgar Allan Poe’s Works and his Legacy.
Each organizer has an answer key for objective answers. One or two questions on the organizers are subjective in nature;
2) A summary of Poe’s early life from one of my biographical resources about his life (titled “Edgar Allan Poe’s Early Life”). Students read the text and complete the summarizing activity. Students can also find some information needed for the graphic organizers within this text. An answer key is included for the activity;
3) An excerpt from “The Raven” the first three stanzas of “The Raven” (in the public domain). The excerpt is on the left side of the page and vocabulary questions on the right. You may decide to read the excerpt with the students or let more advanced students read it on their own. It would serve as a good introduction to the study of the poem or other Poe works. An answer key is also included for this activity.
In total there are 6 student work pages, a page of text,
6 answer keys, and a page of website links.
