This is an activity to analyze "Hop-Frog" by Poe using the DIDLS method :) It asks the students to consider the diction, images, details, language, and syntax of a piece and then use that information to determine attitude and tone. It can be applied to fiction or non-fiction, and all kids benefit from its organization. This is typically an AP strategy, but I think that's a bunch of bologna... I use it for all of my classes and all of my students; it takes a little longer with some classes versus others, but asking your students to contemplate these types of questions about their reading only enhances their criticial thinking and life skills. Use it however is best for you :)

NOTE: This activity presupposes prior knowledge. I would not recommend it unless you have already familiarized your students with diction and syntax.
