Rigorous Halloween Activities for the Middle School ELA Classroom
Focus on the works of Edgar Allan Poe
Four days of instruction for 90 minute class periods
This resource is a complete set of student materials designed to introduce middle school students to the life of Edgar Allan Poe and to analyze two of his most famous works: The Raven and The Tell Tale Heart. This resource provides enough materials for four 90 minute class periods, and would be a great addition to any Halloween activities, a unit on horror, a short story unit, a poetry unit, or a lesson on classic American literature.
Each lesson in this mini-unit on Edgar Allan Poe contains detailed teacher directions, all student materials, an editable version of the student materials, and a complete answer key. None of the texts are included.
This resource directly addresses the following Common Core Standards: R2 (central idea and summary), W2 (expository writing), W1 (argumentative writing), R6 (point of view), and R1 (citing textual evidence).
