These essays are designed to guide students through the development and writing of informative and narrative essays after the reading of any of Poe's work. Students prepare for each essay by completing a step by step outline prior to writing.
Essay topics include:
1) Poe's use of an insane narrator
2) Poe's use of symbolism
3) Poe's use of words to create mood and suspense
4) A narrative essay in which students emulate Poe's writing by including symbols, an insane narrator and words that convey mood and suspense in their own writing.
Statements from the CCSS aligned writing rubrics are embedded in each outline to guide students.
A student/peer checklist helps studenst reflect and revise.
