From Electric English...
I have recently modified this activity to contain more explicit instructions, as well as, slightly altered the template to be more user friendly. This is a great activity because it can be used for many different characters in many different stories and novels. Let's face it; there is plenty of crazy in literature.
This is a super fun activity that asks the students to take on the role of a doctor, specifically a psychologist, to determine and diagnose certain characters from literature. For this particular assignment, students take a closer look at Madeline Usher from Poe's short story of the same name. This story takes a close look at the emotional and psychological toll that some people suffer from, and how family can sometimes contribute to sanity or insanity as the case might be... As the physician, the student is asked to account for their physical and mental state, diagnose the problem, determine a course of action, and decide when and how to proceed with the patient. They always enjoy this activity.
NOTE: There is also a FREE copy of "The Fall of the House of Usher" in my store under the heading, Edgar Allan Poe. Use it for whatever you might need :)
