Last year I created some items for the class shop we had last year for our focus on money (I had Grade 5/6, which are 10-12 year olds).
I laminated them, then used the slicer to cut them.
Aussie basketball players
Food (none of it is healthy, but this was for a fun activity and I knew healthy food wouldn't be 'bought'!).
Experiences (very Victoria, Australia focused though!)
'Beauty' stuff (like GHD's, LUSH bath bombs and hair wax)
There are copies of each item in anticipation that a number of students may want to purchase the same item.
Purchase prices are really varied. There are whole dollar amounts, and examples of cent amounts are 20c, 30c, 50c, 60c, 70c, 80c, 90c, 95c.
Editable to add your own items or change to something that your students are interesting in (mine were ga-ga about AFL and Aussie basketball stars!) or something in your area or state.
I started by giving my students a $50 allowance to buy up to that amount, and ensure they got the right change. Then, they got a $100 allowance.
This activity can get loud, and I had about half the class buying and the other half selling, then they swap.
