Annotation can be challenging for many students, which is why I developed this AWESOME ANNOTATION RUBRIC!
This rubric provides four specific categories of assessment, and spells out exactly what students should be doing to most successfully annotate a non-fiction text. It can also easily be adapted for literature/fiction.
BEST OF ALL, it enables you to properly and quickly assess students' annotation work. This rubric provides BOTH a numerical value for each category that adds up to a score of 100, as well as a 1-4 rubric grading scale. You can use both, or edit/remove the numerical values included for each category.
This has been a LIFE-SAVER for me as a teacher, and it is available as a Word Doc that is completely editable for your own use!
- Text Interaction and Questioning
- Text Details (RI.9-10.1)
- Vocabulary (RI.9.10.4)
- Overall Style and Effort
Ideal for High School (grades 9-12) English/ELA, but can also be used for middle school teachers practicing annotation and close reading. I find myself using this rubric consistently throughout the school year, and I hope you find it as useful as I have.
