Description

Keep everyone in the classroom on track and efficient during our reading block each day with this customizable reading block transition management deck. This PowerPoint slide deck can be customized to align with your daily reading block schedule.

You will no longer need to dedicate a wall in your classroom to your reading group board. You will no longer have to remember to set a timer at the beginning of each reading rotation. You will no longer need to interrupt student reading time to call groups to your back table. This slide deck does it all for you and works perfectly in classrooms where Daily 5 or similar differentiated instructional approaches are used.

Create a custom set of transition slides that will keep track of time during your reading rotations, give students signals when it is time to transition, and display a countdown timer to keep transitions efficient.

The PowerPoint slide deck includes a variety of slide types that you can layout in any order to meet the unique needs of your classroom.

***************************************************************************

Reading Group Slides:

These slides will display when you and your students are working during a reading rotation. You will be able to set a timer on the slide so it only displays for the duration of time you have specified. For example, if you want to meet with group 6 for 15 minutes, the slide will display for 15 minutes and then automatically move on to the next slide in the deck.

***************************************************************************

Transition Countdown Slides:

These slides will display after a round of reading is over. These slides are designed to show students what activity they will be working on next and how much time they have to settle in to that activity. A premade countdown timer will display in the center of the slide, making it easy to guide your students in making efficient transitions. On the next page, you will see the different types of transition slides available.

- Transition to a brain break, then another round of reading.

- Transition to a mini lesson, then another round of reading.

- Transition directly to another round of reading.

- Transition to a mini lesson, then a brain break.

Transition Activity Slides:

These slides will display when you and your students are participating in a mini lesson or a brain break. You will be able to set a timer on the slide so it only displays for the duration of time you have specified. For example, if you want to teach a mini lesson for 5 minutes, the slide will display for 5 minutes and then automatically move on to the next slide in the deck. These two slides are uneditable but can be placed anywhere in your customizable deck.

***************************************************************************

Tidy Up Transition Slides:

These slides will display when your reading block is complete and you need students to tidy up their supplies in preparation for the next activity on your schedule. A premade countdown timer will display in the center of the slide, making it easy to guide your students in tidying up efficiently. You have the option of displaying a one minute or two minute countdown.

Follow the detailed video tutorial on my YouTube channel for specific visual instructions about how to customize your Transition Management Deck. I will walk you through every step required to transform the editable “skeleton deck” into your newly customized classroom management tool.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS

I have also included the following materials to further organize your reading block.

“Our Reading Groups” Editable Templates

Templates to help you organize your reading groups (up to 8 groups). Once you’ve added your students to the template that fits your needs, you can save the template for digital reference or print a copy and keep it in the area where you meet your reading groups each day. This portion of the resource is an editable PowerPoint document.

***************************************************************************

Printable Reading Group Labels

An easy way to help your students keep track of which reading group they belong to (up to 8 groups). Print your Reading Group Labels, laminate them, and give each student the number that matches the group they are in for that unit/month/quarter/trimester. These labels can be taped to student desks or clipped to their book bins. This portion of the resource is an un-editable PDF.

***************************************************************************

Reading Block Planner Editable Templates

Create a weekly schedule that outlines when you will meet with each of your reading groups. The editable Reading Block Planner template makes it easy to schedule the number of rounds that fit in with your unique reading block duration (up to 5 rounds). This will also serve as the outline for your custom Transition Management PowerPoint Deck. Save this template for digital reference or print a copy and keep it in the area where you meet your reading groups each day. This portion of the resource is an editable PowerPoint document.
