Editable Sight Words Game Board: Valentine's Day Read and Match Game
This Editable Sight Words Valentine's Day Game is a fun and engaging way for students to focus on reading sight words. The word list is editable, so you can customize the game board with your own sight words, cvc words, or any other type of word list your class is studying. (Tip: I have even used basic math facts.)
To play the game, students take turns rolling a number cube and moving around the board. They read each word they land on. After the word is read correctly, students look to see if they have the matching picture on their player cards and cover it up. The first person to completely cover his or her player card wins the game.
This is a low-prep activity. The game board is pre-filled with a set of 19 sight words. Keep or change them if you wish. Then, simply print and cut apart the player cards. The game board and player cards come in both color and black lines. Use heavy paper and laminate for durability.
You will need to provide students with a number cube and a set of small game pieces (counting chips, cubes, coins, buttons, bears, etc.) to move around the board and to cover up the pictures. You could also use dry erase markers on the player cards for a write and wipe activity.
This sight word game set is a great way to review any word list! (**Note: The font size is preformatted to work best with sight words less than 8 letters. Longer words may not fit in the boxes.)
*** Important Note About Editable Games: In order to edit the word list, you must use Adobe Reader to open the PDF file. The editing features will not work if it is opened in your browser or another viewer.
