Each question is CCSS related and based on a comprehension reading strategy. Here are a few examples of questions asked on the reading records:
-Draw a picture and label it of what you visualized while reading--The text said……It reminded me of……...-
-Is the main character good or bad? Explain with evidence from text-
-Tell about the problem in the story. How would you have solved the problem if you were the main character-
- Circle the author’s purpose and explain why you think this.
to inform to persuade to entertain-
-If you could change the title of the story, what would it be-
Those are some samples yet the level of complexity varies so some are easier while some are more thought provoking.
I created these and used to use them solely for home reading homework, BUT..... I began to find many more uses for them. Now I use them for many things IN THE CLASSROOM as well..... including: Daily 5, close reading questions, formative assessments, guided reading groups, parent or paraprofessional pull out groups, silent reading responses, and SO MUCH MORE!
So to use them in the classroom and at home, I created a parent signature and minutes read option as well as one with not a place for parent signatures for classroom use. Well....these weeks were all on one side of paper...as at our school teachers have to pay for their own paper BUT decided to create another version that used two pages for one week that I just copy back to back and it gives the students that need it, more room to write their responses and can have a bit bigger font. So I made two versions (one with and one without) parent signature options exactly like the one page versions. THAT MAKES A TOTAL OF 4 VERSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM of the same 6 full weeks with 5 days of questions on each week.
i have also included a rubric for your convenience.
These have been SO popular (over 5,000 copies of this product have been sold so far) that I have created a variety of different variations of reading records....which you can find below if interested.
Please check out the preview and don't hesitate to ask any question whatsoever.....I'm happy to help in any way I can. If you would like to see something added or tweaked on these, please feel free to email me and if I can do it....I will add it or change it for you. I hope you enjoy this. I have worked extremely hard to make it very user friendly, with lots of varieties for different learners, educational, CCSS correlated, varied in complexity, etc.... I hope your kiddos learn as much as mine have and enjoy this more than the basic reading record. Enjoy!
